What are the causes of infertility?

  • Damage to your fallopian tube
  • Hormonal problems
  • Cervical issues
  • Uterine trouble

Tests for Infertility

  • Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
  • Laparoscopy

How Is Female Infertility Treated?

Laparoscopy: Laparoscopic surgery is used to reconstruct your reproductive organ if you have any tubal or pelvic disease.

Hysteroscopy: This procedure is used to remove polyps and fibroid
tumors, divide scar tissue and open up blocked tubes.
IUIIntrauterine Insemination is the common treatment for infertility.  It is a treatment procedure in which the sperm is placed inside the uterus of the woman.
In Vitro Fertilization is a process in which egg and sperm combine outside the body.  The ovulatory process of the woman is stimulated and monitored at first.  Then the ovum is taken from and is fertilized with a sperm in a liquid in the laboratory.  After fertilization, the fertilized egg undergoes embryo culture and then it is transferred to the woman’s uterus.

What all you must know about IVF Treatment.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an Assisted Reproductive Technology used to treat couples with infertility. In this procedure a retrieved sperm sample and extracted egg will be manually combined in a laboratory dish, finally the embryo will be transferred in to the uterus.

Problems treatable with IVF:

Most commonly IVF is used to treat the following infertility problems:
  • Uterine Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Previous tubal sterilization or removal
  • Ovulation disorders
  • At a risk of passing a genetic disorder to the child
  • Women who don't have functional uterus or poses a serious health risk
  • Fallopian tubes are damaged or removed
  • Poor sperm count or sperm motility
  • Premature ovarian failure

The Procedure

  1. At first ovulation induction will be done to produce Multiple eggs which are desired for this procedure. So that Fertility medications are prescribed to stimulate egg production.
  2. Then egg retrieval is done from the ovaries through the pelvic cavity, by a minor surgical procedure that uses ultrasound guided needle aspiration.
  3. In this step, the male is asked to produce a sample of sperm, which will be prepared for combining with the eggs.
  4. The next step is the insemination, the eggs will be mixed with the most active sperm in a special chamber. Then the sperm and egg are monitored to make sure that the cell division is taking place.
  5. Finally, the fertilized embryos will be transferred into the uterus using a catheter. The implantation happens in around six to ten days following the egg retrieval if the procedure is successful.

Make Your Dream Of A Baby Into Reality

Assisted Reproductive Technology or ART can be defined as a reproductive technology used for infertility treatment. This fertility treatment method makes use of fertility medication, in vitro fertilization  to achieve pregnancy.
http://www.vijaya-ivf.com/Assisted-reproductive-technology.php

Types of Assisted Reproductive Technology

In order to help people to achieve pregnancy assisted reproductive technology covers a wide spectrum of treatments, depending on the cause of infertility.
The following are some of the assisted reproductive technology:

Ovulation Induction (OI): This type of treatment technology is used in a woman who is not ovulating or not ovulating regularly. In this procedure, a tablet or injection (hormone medication) will be given to increase the production of follicle stimulating hormone. This results in the development of one or more follicles and by using the administration of another hormone egg will be released from the follicle. The chances of conception greatly increase, if the couple has intercourse around this time.

Artificial Insemination (AI): Artificial insemination or Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a treatment technology used in women with healthy fallopian tubes, but cannot conceive due to unknown reasons. In this procedure, just before the time of ovulation the semen is inserted into the uterus of the woman through the cervix.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): In this procedure the eggs are removed from the ovary and fertilized with the sperm in a laboratory procedure, then the fertilized eggs or embryo is transferred to the uterus.

Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT): In this procedure the eggs retrieved from the ovaries are inserted into two layers of sperm in fine tubing. Then the sperm and eggs are allowed to fertilize naturally by feeding this tube into the woman's fallopian tubes.

Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): ICSI involves the injection of a single sperm into the egg to achieve fertilization

Vijaya Fertility Clinic IVF and Endoscopic Centre, is the First IVF centre in Kerala, provides all kinds of infertility treatments at affordable rates. Dr N P Vijayalakshmy who is specialized in Assisted Reproductive Technology effectively treats infertile couples with her vast experience and expertise.

Beat Infertility by Intra Uterine Insemination

What is IUI?

IUI or Intrauterine insemination is a fertility treatment which involves a laboratory procedure to separate fast-moving sperm from low motile or non-moving sperm and placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The main goal of IUI is to increase the chance of fertilization by increasing the number of sperms that reach the fallopian tubes. This can be performed with your partner’s sperm or donor sperm (known as donor insemination). You can approach Vijaya Fertility clinic because it's one of the Best Infertility Center in Kerala.

When is IUI used?

IUI may be selected as a fertility treatment for any of the following conditions:

low sperm count or low sperm mobility.
Unexplained infertility
A hostile cervical condition like cervical mucus problems
Cervical scar tissue which may hinder the ability of sperm to enter the uterus
Ejaculation dysfunction

How is IUI performed?

The following are the steps of IUI Procedure.

  • At First, the woman will be  given medications to stimulate development of multiple eggs. Then the insemination is timed to coincide with release of the eggs (ovulation).
  • Man will be asked to produce a semen specimen after 2-5 days of abstinence from ejaculation.
  • The sperm will be separated from the other components of the semen and concentrated in a small volume by using a process called Sperm processing or Sperm Washing.
  • The cervical area is gently cleaned and a speculum is placed in the vagina.
  • The highly motile sperm of washed specimen is placed either in the cervix or uterine cavity using a sterile flexible catheter.
  • The process of placing the sperm in the cervix is known as intracervical insemination or ICI and in the uterine cavity is known as intrauterine insemination, IUI.

Vijaya Institute of Medical Sciences headed by Dr. N.P. Vijayalakshmy is the First IVF Center which avails all kinds of Infertility Treatments in Kerala including Intra Uterine Insemination at an affordable cost. Managing Infertility With ICSI

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI treatment is a popular method of artificial fertilisation in ART (Artificial Reproduction Technique). An ideal treatment method for treating severe male infertility, it is increasingly used in cases of low sperm count or lack of quality sperm.

http://www.vijaya-ivf.com/ICSI.php

The method of ICSI involves the direct injection of sperm into the egg cytoplasm with the help of a micro injection needle. The process is mainly beneficial when the number of sperm available is very less. The method is used along with IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) as well.

ICSI Procedure

The initial process in ICSI involves sperm and egg retrieval from the male and female partner. This is done in with the help of procedures usually practised in other artificial fertilisation techniques. However in case of men suffering with very low or no sperm count special sperm extraction techniques.

http://www.vijaya-ivf.com/ICSI.php

The ICSI procedure involves the immobilisation of sperm extracted, with the help of the laser immobilisation technology. The immobilised sperm is then aspirated into a microinjection needle and directly injected into an egg that is held with a holding pipette. They are left in a laboratory environment for fertilisation to occur and later implanted in the mother’s womb.

The procedure ensures the highest probability for successful fertilisation the direct injection technique helps in overcoming several hurdles in the process. The process is known to have a high success rate of about 63% in cases of transfer on the 5th or 6th day. The success rate is about 41% in 3rd day transfers.

Sperm Extraction Techniques

These techniques are relied on, in cases of very less or no sperm during ejaculation. The different types of sperm extraction techniques are as follows.

  • MESA – Micro Epididymal Sperm Aspiration
  • PESA – Percutaneous Sperm Aspiration
  • TESE – Testicular Sperm Extraction
The success rate of fertilisation in ICSI is about 90% although the overall success rate is lower than regular IVF.

The Vijaya Fertility IVF and Endoscopy centre (Vijaya Institute of Medical Sciences) in Kochi provides complete and advanced solutions for infertility under the same roof, at affordable rates.

Infertility can be caused due to several reasons. Though lifestyle factors such as stress and obesity contribute to infertility, they are mainly caused due to the following conditions

Uterine disorders are issues related to uterus such as fibroid growth or presence of polyps. These are usually growths formed in the inner lining of the uterus or endometrium, which resist implantation.

Hormonal imbalance would lead to abnormalities in ovulation and production of egg. This leads to a lack of fertilization and hence pregnancy is not possible.

Conditions like endometriosis, pelvic infections and pelvic surgery can damage fallopian tubes that carry egg from ovary to womb. A damage can disrupt the path of egg and thus fertilization cannot take place.

Certain conditions of cervix popularly called hostile cervical disorder leads to rejection of sperm and its entry into uterus.

Why Delay in Getting Pregnant ?

Infertility is common for both male and female. For fertility female age and health are considered as main factors. Having regular unprotected sex with the partner after marriage is the best choice of early pregnancy. Even after having coitus as said above when a young woman misses her pregnancy, then she definitely needs the consultation from an infertility specialist.

http://www.vijaya-ivf.com/When-to-see-an-Infertility-Specialist.php

If a woman already had multiple surgeries for problems like endometriosis then she should not wait for one year and she must consult the doctor as early as possible to achieve pregnancy. In the case of aged women who are more than 35 years should immediately get an appointment from obstetrics and gynecologist. Women, who have Body Mass Index (BMI) more than 30, may increase the chances of infertility, repeated abortions, irregular periods and anovulation.

It is otherwise called artificial insemination or test tube baby in which the sperms and egg are taken out of the body and in a sterile culture lab where the embryo is formed. IVF and ICSI are the two prominent protocols to treat infertility.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is generally preferred to the women who have endometriosis, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes where the egg and sperm cannot meet each other. In this procedure, a woman is administered with hormones for proper ovulation. Once the ovum is formed it is retried and injected with sperm, kept in the lab for 3-5 days for embryo formation. After the embryo formation, it is placed in the woman’s uterus to achieve a successful pregnancy.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a procedure done for male infertility. In this procedure, the mature egg is held with a specialized pipette. A sharp, hollow needle is used to pick the quality sperm and then the quality sperm is inserted through the egg shell and into the egg’s cytoplasmic area. After injecting the sperm into cytoplasm the needle is removed. The eggs are regularly checked out for the normal fertilization.

Vijaya Institute of Medical Sciences from Cochin is headed by Dr. N.P. Vijayalakshmy holds the pride of having started first IVF Center in Kerala. With her experience and expertise, she has been treating so many infertile couples successfully.

Do You feel Pain in Your Stomach During Pregnancy ?

Normal pregnancy is the process by which a fertilized egg travels through the fallopian tube into the uterus and attaches itself to the uterine wall and starts to grow. In some cases, the fertilized egg implants itself to some place other than the uterus. This kind of pregnancies is simply known as Ectopic Pregnancies. In most of the cases, the egg starts to grow in the fallopian tube, ovary, cervix, or in the belly.
http://www.vijaya-ivf.com/Ectopic-Pregnancy.php

The main cause is the damage to the fallopian tube because of which a fertilized egg may have trouble passing through it, which causes the implantation of fertilized egg in the fallopian tube. Damage in the fallopian tubes happen due to infections such as gonorrhea or Chlamydia causing pelvic inflammatory diseases. Smoking also causes the ectopic pregnancies. Some medical treatments also increase the risk of ectopic pregnancies such as surgeries to the fallopian tube or in the pelvic regions and also the fertility treatments such as IVF.

The main signs of the ectopic pregnancies are pelvic pain spread on the belly region and it would appear to worsen when you move or strain. Vaginal bleeding might also be a symptom.
When the signs of ectopic pregnancies mentioned above occur, consult a doctor as early as possible. Ectopic pregnancies can be diagnosed by urine examination. Size of the uterus and growth or tenderness of belly can be checked by a pelvic exam. In normal pregnancies, pregnancy hormones double in every two days but in ectopic pregnancies, the level of hormone decreases and it can be examined by a blood test. The ectopic pregnancy can be diagnosed by an ultrasound test

Surgeries and medications constitute the most common treatments. Medicines such as methotrexate can be used to treat if the ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed in the early stages. Surgeries like laparoscopy are safer than consuming medicines. Laparoscopy is a type of surgery done through small incisions in the belly.
Vijaya Institute of Medical Sciences treats Ectopic Pregnancy in Chennai with utmost care. Specialized in cases involving infertility and pregnancy issues.
